Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has beaten his teammate at each of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the points lead from his teammate by just one point after winning in Mexico City two weeks ago, topped the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Before then, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before the sprint shootout scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the championship fight, trailing 36 points Norris, ended up in P17 as his team followed a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, if briefly, when he lost control at Turn Four early in the session.
The Japanese spun out over the track edges before sliding over the run-off area, and was lucky to get away with just a slight brush of the wall.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the very end of the practice, turning around through the fast downhill Mergulho turn before the last turn on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in 19th, just behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with the German's Sauber in third, over half a second behind Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
