Micky van de Ven found the net twice as Tottenham prolonged their winning streak in away games in the Premier League and handed Everton their first defeat at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Toffees were undefeated in their five previous fixtures at their recently opened stadium at the dockside location, having departed Goodison Park behind after more than a century at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

But Tottenham's leader the Dutchman struck on two occasions from corners in the first half to put their strong form at jeopardy, and they were failed to turn it around before Pape Matar Sarr - assisted by former Toffees attacker Richarlison - headed home a third to put the game to bed.

The Everton defender believed he had equalized the tally five minutes after the defender's first goal, glancing a powerful header past the Spurs keeper from an set-piece.

Beto, in the meantime, missed a handful of opportunities, while Vicario made a succession of excellent saves to guarantee the London club went five matches on the road unbeaten in the Premier League.

But the video assistant referee stepped in, instructing the match official to check the goal on the pitchside monitor and the referee decided that Jack Grealish and the attacker were in offside positions and had impeded with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

This victory elevates the manager's side up to third in the Premier League, five points off local foes and table-toppers Arsenal.

Everton remain in 14th position and sit six points clear of the relegation zone.

Tottenham analysis: Van de Ven fulfils duties at each end of the field

Following a uninspiring weekday performance in the Champions League against Monaco, where they managed a only two shots on target, Frank chose Randal Kolo Muani up front instead of former Toffees player the Brazilian.

The summer signing was unable to influence the game before being substituted for the substitute after an hour on the pitch, but it emerged he proved unnecessary in the end.

Centre-back Van de Ven converted into an attacking force to be feared.

Spurs' first goal came from a cleverly executed set-piece play, with the midfielder directing the ball back across the six-yard box for an free Van de Ven to score.

And the captain - stepping up as captain in the Argentine's absence - added his next goal in first-half stoppage time as he outjumped the England keeper to head home.

Van de Ven was equally outstanding in defensive duties, partnering well with his defensive colleague as the pair handled superbly with the 34 crosses sent their way by Everton.

Toffees breakdown: Toffees lacking finishing touch

Everton's new home had been a happy hunting ground, but it appears the freshness may have faded somewhat and fans flocked to the exits after the midfielder's third for Tottenham.

The break in the team's winning streak at home will not be a massive worry for the manager, but their striker situation will be.

Beto and the other striker - the Toffees' two established strikers - had scored only a single goal between them before the weekend's outing.

And they were failed to contribute to that poor tally on a damp and dreary night on in Liverpool.

The striker's performance was epitomized when he chose to bicycle-kick a golden opportunity from close range, even with having room and opportunity to reposition for a more conventional attempt that would have tested the keeper.

Barry, too, was unable to influence the game after coming on for Beto in the 65th minute.

It wasn't for a lack of opportunity. The majority of the home side's attacks came through Grealish and Ndiaye, who tirelessly whipped threatening balls into the Spurs box.
