Christopher Nolan's mythic action epic, The Odyssey, stands as a movie audiences have been anticipating since its announcement. It firmly sits among the most hotly anticipated films of 2026. As a pre-Christmas treat, a trailer has finally arrived, even if it's compromised by YouTube's poor compression—maybe illustrating why Nolan initially kept the trailer solely for theatrical audiences.
A First Glimpse of the Stellar Ensemble
The debut footage showcases Matt Damon portraying the king of Ithaca. We also see Tom Holland playing the son alongside Anne Hathaway depicting the loyal wife. During an emotional scene, the character pleads with her husband to vow his safe homecoming, only for him to look up and question what happens if he cannot. Based upon a cornerstone of Western literature, The Odyssey chronicles the epic journey of the legendary King of Ithaca. After his triumph at Troy, which is depicted within the companion epic, the king faces a long and perilous road home.

Along his path, Odysseus confronts countless challenges and mythical beings. This roster features the witch-goddess Circe, known for turning humans into pigs, and the deceptive Sirens. Regardless of these ordeals, his sworn oath is to overcome anything to get back to his wife and son on his home island.
This film's ensemble is remarkably star-studded. Joining Damon, Holland, and Hathaway are Charlize Theron portraying the shrewd goddess, together with Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, Elliot Page, and Jon Bernthal.
A Story Repeatedly Told
The classic poem has seen numerous adaptations throughout history. Examples include contemporary versions and a late-90s dance production. There has even been adapted into a musical called Epic: The Musical, released in the form of a nine-album collection.
